Cosmetic photography on a neutral background: how we create clean and professional flat lays
In the world of cosmetics, image is everything.
Every color, texture, and reflection must convey not only the quality of the product but also the essence of the brand behind it. That’s why, in our studio, we understand that good cosmetic photography goes far beyond a simple image. It is the result of a meticulous process involving creativity, technique, art direction, and constant communication with the client.
A good example of this is the project we carried out with NATA, a brand specializing in professional manicure products. Below, we explain the entire process, from the first meeting to the delivery of final materials ready for web, social media, print, and large format.

TABLE OF CONTENTS:
Initial Phase: Briefing and Planning
The project began with a very detailed briefing from the client, outlining both the visual objectives and the technical requirements for the images. NATA needed photographs that were versatile and consistent, suitable for e-commerce and social media as well as for printed catalogs, magazines, and large-format media.
The most important guidelines included:
Photographs with clean, professional compositions, in both vertical and horizontal versions.
Neutral backgrounds (white or very light gray), with soft lighting and no harsh shadows, maintaining a polished, editorial style.
Showing products open to highlight the real color and texture.
Grouping products by line (by type or function) and creating 3–4 general compositions reflecting the breadth of the catalog.
Working with maximum color fidelity and high resolution, especially considering future large-scale prints.
Ensuring all products were centered, well-focused, and free of unwanted reflections.
With all this information, we prepared an art direction proposal that met these needs, balancing technical precision with aesthetic appeal.
Creative Phase: AI Previsualization
Before starting the actual photoshoot, we decided to conduct visual tests using artificial intelligence tools. These AI-generated images allowed us to present the client with an accurate simulation of the final result, exploring compositions, product arrangements, background types, and lighting.
This phase was extremely valuable because it enabled early validation of the visual approach, reducing time and potential adjustments during the actual shoot. Once we received the client’s approval, we moved on to the photographic production.
Production Phase: Professional Photoshoot of Cosmetic Products
The photoshoot was conducted with each product line separately, following the structure established in the briefing. We worked on neutral white backgrounds, using diffusers and soft continuous lighting to avoid reflections on the containers and to highlight the purity of the colors.
Each composition was photographed in both vertical and horizontal formats, ensuring visual cleanliness and that all products were fully within the frame—essential for allowing subsequent cropping.
Raw Photos Without Professional Retouching
During the session, we maintained constant communication with the client, sending progress updates and previews so they could provide real-time feedback and ensure that every detail met their expectations.

In addition to the general compositions, we captured detail shots of the textures to showcase the visual richness of the colors, finishes, and materials. In these shots, we focused on capturing the depth, shine, and density of the product, conveying tactile sensations and realism. This type of image helps the end customer perceive the quality and personality of each formula, making texture a key visual element within the brand’s identity.
Retouching and Post-Production Phase
Once the photoshoot was completed, we began the post-production and digital retouching work. The goal was to maintain a natural yet flawless aesthetic, enhancing the visual quality of the products without altering their real appearance.
Edited Photographs
In this stage, special attention was given to:
Color correction, to ensure maximum color fidelity.
Background cleanup and removal of any imperfections or visual residue.
Edge retouching on open containers, removing remnants of the silver seal material.
Light and contrast adjustments to add depth and vibrancy to the images without losing naturalness.

At the same time, video edits were also produced specifically for social media, aiming to maintain a visual line consistent with the final photographs. These clips were created using the same products and compositions, incorporating smooth movements.
The videos not only complement the static images but also enhance the brand’s visual communication, providing rhythm, consistency, and a uniform professional style across all digital platforms.
Final Deliverables and Formats
The project concluded with the delivery of all materials adapted to the different media the client required:
Printed magazines and catalogs: high-resolution files (300 DPI), with clean backgrounds and accurate colors.
Banner for SALON LOOK fair: clear composition in 2000 × 2500 mm size, with safe margins for printing and alternative versions (one general and another focused on the “Liquid Gels” line).
Social media and web: optimized versions in square, vertical, and horizontal formats, ready for free cropping and maintaining visual consistency across all platforms.

Conclusion: Aesthetics, Technique, and Trust
This project with NATA perfectly reflects how we approach cosmetic photography: combining detailed planning, visual innovation, and technical rigor in every phase of the process.
From the initial concepts to the final delivery, we aim for each image to convey the brand’s personality, communicating quality, professionalism, and aesthetic consistency across all media.
The final result was not just a series of beautiful photos but a strategic visual asset capable of strengthening NATA’s presence both at the point of sale and in the digital environment, with clean, precise, and vibrant images.
